John Messner

Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission

 

John Messner was appointed to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission by Governor Polis in July 2020. He is serving in the capacity of a member with substantial expertise in planning or land use for a term expiring July 1, 2024. Messner came to Gunnison County, from Denver, in 1991 to attend Western Colorado University. He started, grew, and eventually sold High Country Cowboy Company, served as Facility and Event Manager within the City of Gunnison, managed Messner Ranch and started a consulting business that focused on fundraising, grant writing and project management of Outdoor Recreation programs and amenities. He was elected to the Gunnison Board of County Commissioners in November 2016, and currently serves as Co-Chair of Counties and Commissioners Acting Together, Co-Chair of the North Fork Coal Mine Methane Working Group, Vice Chair of CCI Land Use and Natural Resources Steering Committee, and on the NaCO Energy and Environment Steering Committee.
